Mindful Magnolia is a series of five 3D mixed media pieces focusing on the idea of allowing memory to bloom into the future. Taking positive memories from the past and bringing them forward into something that is both familiar and new.
This work was created at a time of considering leaving my current home in search of a return to my childhood hometown. Thinking about a past of love and promise, bringing those feelings to the present and beyond.
As I was pulling old magazines apart to collage as the background for these works, I kept reflecting on the idea of using these images as representation of memory. Collaging each piece together, painting it over, and forming the flowers illustrate something bigger: taking the good from the past forward. The layering of magazines, acrylic mediums, and 3D paper elements work to communicate these feelings.
